MILWAUKEE—The energetic commitment of two University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee professors helped bring to Milwaukee 1,200 leading scholars from around the world for the 2006 International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) Dec. 10-13 at the Midwest Airlines Center.
The event is the premier academic conference in the Information Systems (IS) field. The theme of the conference is “IT for Underserved Communities.” The professors who worked to bring the conference to Milwaukee are William (Dave) Haseman, Wisconsin Distinguished Professor in Management Information Systems in the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business, and Derek L. Nazareth, associate professor of Management Information Systems.
“With UWM serving as host university, our MIS program will receive a great deal of visibility with a prestigious group,” said Haseman. He directs the Center for Technology Innovation at the UWM business school.
Haseman is conference chair and Nazareth is conference treasurer. They have been working with the Midwest Airlines Center, hotels, Milwaukee Art Museum and VISIT Milwaukee for the past four years in preparation for the event.
VISIT Milwaukee recognized Haseman with a Standing Ovation Award in February 2006. The award is given to Milwaukeeans who, by acting as a liaison on the city’s behalf to groups of which they are members, have been an integral part of securing convention business. Jack Moneypenny, vice president of sales for VISIT Milwaukee, estimates that the ICIS 2006 conference will have an economic impact on Milwaukee of nearly $3.5 million.
VISIT Milwaukee markets Greater Milwaukee to tourists, convention and meeting planners nationally and internationally. VISIT Milwaukee has more than 700 members, including hotels/motels, restaurants, attractions, services and area businesses. For more information, phone 1-800-554-1448 or visit www.visitmilwaukee.org.
ICIS is an active forum for research exchange in information systems. In addition to the main conference presentations, ICIS also hosts focused workshops, camps for junior faculty, and an intensive doctoral consortium. The conference site is www.icis2006.org/
