MILWAUKEE—The University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts Department of Theatre presents “The Liar” in the Mainstage Theatre, 2400 E. Kenwood Blvd. The play runs Nov. 30 through Dec. 10.

“The Liar,” by Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793), was translated by Tunc Yalman, former artistic director of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and is directed by Bill Watson, associate professor and head of the BFA program in Acting.

In “The Liar,” Goldoni created a delightful romp through the manners and customs of 18th century Italy. A master of comedy, he mined the classic vein of commedia dell’arte, employing slapstick, pratfalls, wit, some romance and music. But he was also an innovator, creating realistic characters who continue to inspire modern comedians such as the Marx Brothers, Jackie Gleason and Art Carney, and Roberto Benigni.

“The Liar” is presented Nov. 30-Dec. 2 and Dec. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. On Dec. 4, there is a “Pay What You Can Night” with a performance at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10/general admission and $7/students and seniors.

The Peck School of the Arts box office is located in the Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, 2419 E. Kenwood Blvd. (access from the parking lot to the south of the building; free short-term parking immediately outside box office entrance). Box office hours are  Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The satellite box office in the Mainstage Theatre lobby is open one hour prior to performances. Phone the box office for special needs and group sales availability, 414-229-4308.
