UWM Guitar Series Presents Benefit Concert Dec. 5 for Pre-College Guitar Program

MILWAUKEE —A benefit for the Pre-College Guitar Program at the University of Wisconsin — Milwaukee will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the UWM Recital Hall, 2400 E. Kenwood Blvd.
The concert features classical guitarist René Izquierdo with Elina Chekan, director of the Pre-College and Suzuki Guitar Program, and her students.
Tickets are $20/general admission and $10/students and seniors. Single tickets are $19/general admission and $10/students and seniors and are available from the Peck School of the Arts box office, 414-229-4308.
Peck School of the Arts music performances are free to members of the campus community. A valid UWM ID must be presented at the box office for a single free ticket.
Chekan's Suzuki guitar trio will play three short pieces. Student Louis Cucunato will play a solo piece by H. Villa-Lobos and a duet with Chekan, “Milonga,” by Jorge Cardoso. Chekan and Izquierdo will play a variety of solos and duets by Scarlatti, Telemann, Ivanov-Kramskoy, Coste, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Albeniz and de Falla.
The UWM Pre-College Guitar Program offers thorough and comprehensive guitar and music instruction for young people of all skill levels, ages 5-18. The program provides a solid foundation in classical guitar, equipping students with the basic skills required to be versatile in any style.
The program has several components, including a Suzuki Guitar Program (the only one of its kind in Wisconsin ) and pre-college instruction for students aged 11 and up. An enriched college preparatory program is provided for older guitar students considering a career in music.
As a part of the Pre-College Division of UWM's Peck School of the Arts, the program offers students unique access to university resources, such as master classes with distinguished visiting artists and concerts.
