MILWAUKEE – For the second year, borders of every kind will be crossed, erased and/or redrawn in this festival of film by women media-makers at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. The 2006 Women Without Borders Film Festival includes a March 10 panel discussion of women and media and works by UWM film faculty and alumnae. On March 13, filmmaker Illel Alexander speaks and attends a screening of her documentary.
All screenings are at the UWM Union Theatre, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd., and are free and open to the public.
All of the documentaries screened this year are distributed by Women Make Movies, established in 1972 to address the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women in the media industry and a co-sponsor of “Women Without Borders.” The festival also is co-sponsored by UWM’s Department of Film, Union Programming, Union Theatre, Union Socio-Cultural Programming, Women’s Resource Center, the Center for Women’s Studies, Cultures and Communities, Community Media Project and Department of Africology.
