MILWAUKEE—National Depression Screening Day will be held at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee on Thursday, Oct. 13. General information about depression will be available from UWM's Norris Health Center from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the UWM Union, first floor, booth 7, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.
Two rooms on the second floor of the union have been set aside as screening rooms―Union E220 and Union E260. Counselors will be on hand to confidentially answer questions and provide a brief mental health screening assessment.
National Depression Screening Day is designed to call attention to the illness of depression on a national level, educate the public about its symptoms and effective treatments, offer individuals the opportunity to be screened for depression, and connect those in need of treatment to the mental health care system.
Further information is available at the Norris Health
Center, 414-229-4716. The Health Center staff emphasize that "this is a
treatable illness, with the majority of people responding well to therapy and or
medicine. If you are concerned about symptoms of depression, help is
available."
