UWM Students Selected for College Art Show at Lakefront Festival of Arts, June 17-19

MILWAUKEE – Several University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee students are among those selected for the College Art Show at the 43rd annual Lakefront Festival of Arts, June 17-19. The festival is held on the grounds of the Milwaukee Art Museum, 700 N. Art Museum Drive, and is sponsored by the museum’s Friends of Art.

UWM students who will participate, media used, and their works follow: Ian Arenas, bronze/wood, “Bird in Space”; Alisyn Berth, oils, “The Value of Life”; Tony Conrad, emulsion/sand/acrylic, “Untitled”; Tamiko Dargar, print, “Untitled”; Elissa Ecker, oil/masonite, “Inside the Box”; Lisa Korthof, painting, “Insatiable Desire of Greedy Hare”; and Carlie Peterson, fiber, “Memory Dress.

The College Art Show, sponsored by Marty and Alice Krebs, was juried by experts who analyzed 200 works entered by nine area colleges and universities. The result is a collection of 50 pieces of art created by students. Five of the artists received Special Merit Awards from Artist and Display.

Located on the paved area in front of the museum’s Santiago Calatrava addition, the festival’s tents connect the event directly to the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Considered one of the nation's premier art festivals, the festival features the jury-selected work of 170 artists. The event also includes demonstrations by artists, food and beverages, and musical entertainment.

Festival hours are noon-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8 Friday, $10 Saturday and Sunday, with $7 advance tickets available at many area locations. Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
