MILWAUKEE—The Sertoma Club of Milwaukee will visit the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee’s Hearing Evaluation Center from 1-3 p.m. on March 31. Students in the master's program of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders will provide hearing screenings for club members and their family members.
The Hearing Evaluation Center is part of the UWM’s College of Health Sciences. The Hearing Evaluation Center provides clinical audiological services to the greater Milwaukee community through its collaboration with the Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CDHH), a nonprofit agency located in Brookfield. In its partnership with CDHH, Sertoma donates half of all charitable donations to CDHH.
“One of the purposes of the campus visit is to increase the awareness among Sertoma Club members about the services provided by the center,” says Diane Contreras, clinical instructor.
“The Sertoma Club’s visit also will provide students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders with an important opportunity for clinical training,”
The Sertoma Club meets the first and third Wednesday of the month. Their primary service mission is to assist individuals with speech, language and hearing disorders. Future goals include the purchase of a van for hearing screenings.
Co-presidents of the local chapter are Bill Ludovice and Robert Frisch. Frisch can be contacted for membership information at 414-271-5722.
