Guitarist Lil' Rev and Friends Offer
A Night to Cure the Winter Blues

MILWAUKEE - Music Department faculty member Marc Revenson presents A Night to Cure the Winter Blues, an evening of Old-time Blues and Folk Songs, on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in the Peck School of the Arts Recital Hall, 2400 East Kenwood Boulevard on the UWM campus. Tickets are $8/$5 for students and seniors and are available from the Peck School of the Arts Box Office, (414) 229-4308.

A star studded line-up of award-winning regional performers—Steve Cohen, Peter Roller, Eric Noden, Lil’ Rev and Celia—will perform in solo, duo and ensemble formats, in this intimate evening of toe-tapping, finger-snapping and sing-your-heart-out Blues and Folk. This taste of great American “Roots” music will be served up on harmonica, guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, piano, dobro and vocals by some smokin’ regional talent. Dr. Martin Jack Rosenblum, music historian in the UWM Department of Music, will open the concert with an introduction to American roots music.

STEVE COHEN & PETER ROLLER: Both of these performers are world-class blues musicians. Steve Cohen, a Hohner Harmonica endorsee and WAMI award winner for best blues band, will be singing, playing guitar and blowing some of the meanest blues harp you’re likely to hear anywhere on this side of the Mason/Dixon line. Music historian at Alverno College, Peter Roller is a true Milwaukee legend; he has worked with artists such as Yank Rachell, The Masonic Wonders and Paul Cebar. Peter plays slide, dobro, electric and acoustic guitar and is noted for his tasteful, soul-stirring, nimble-fingered playing.

ERIC NODEN: Eric is regarded by critics as one of the best young finger-style blues guitarists in the country. Equally adept at ragtime, delta blues and Jug-band material, Eric is also an incredible boogie-woogie barrel house piano player. Eric travels the country as a full-time musician teaching blues history and music to school kids as well as performing at festivals, clubs, workshops and folk societies.

LIL’ REV & CELIA: Lil’ Rev has been teaching Folk Instruments and Blues History at UWM for the last four years while touring steadily throughout the Midwest and promoting his brand of genuine good-time music. Rev plays guitar, ukulele, mandolin, banjo and harmonica, in many styles ranging from Old-Time Blues, Folk and Ethnic to Bluegrass, Tin-Pan Alley and originals. This past summer Rev was inducted into the Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Joining Rev on a few numbers will be Celia, one of Milwaukee’s up and coming stars. Celia is a singer/songwriter, actor and storyteller who imbues everything she does with warm mid-western charm.
