MILWAUKEE Its a fitting prelude to St. Paddys Day Feb. 20, 21 and 24 at the University of WisconsinMilwaukee (UWM) campus. Singers and songwriters of sean-nós, the lyrical song tradition of Ireland, will gather for a weekend of music Feb. 20-21. Then, on Feb. 24, Scotlands Lord Lyon King of Arms will give a talk on Scottish clans and their genealogies.

Singers of sean-nós, one of the oldest traditional song styles in Europe, will meet for a unique weekend of song sharing, workshops, sessions and archival recordings, and, of course, public performances. A lineup of activities includes:

Robin
Blair, Scotland's Lord Lyon King of Arms

Scottish Clans and Heraldry in Contemporary Times is the topic of a talk by Robin Blair, Scotlands Lord Lyon King of Arms when, he makes his first visit to Milwaukee on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. The event, held at the Hefter Center, 3271 N. Lake Dr., is free and open to the public.
For 700 years, the Lord Lyon has been the judge in all matters of Scottish
heraldry. The Lord Lyon also determined the correct heir to the Scottish
throne
and decides who is qualified to be a Clan Chief. He also is charged with
State and Royal ceremonies and occasions, and has the powers of imprisonment.
Blair,
who was appointed the 34th Lord Lyon in 2001, is a retired Edinburgh
lawyer. Since 1988 he has held the post of Purse Bearer to the Lord High
Commisioner
to a General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and is also a member
of the
Company of Archers.
