MILWAUKEE–The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts Department of Music presents its 10th Annual Holiday Choral Concert on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen Bader Concert Hall of the Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, 2419 E. Kenwood Blvd.
Participating groups include the UWM Concert Chorale, UWM Men of Song, UWM University Choir, UWM Women's Chorus, and a brass quintet. Tickets are available by phone, mail, or in person through the Peck School of the Arts Box Office, 414-229-4308. Tickets are $8 for the general public and $5 for students, alumni and seniors. The Peck School of the Arts Box Office is open for phone and walk-up business between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and one hour prior to performances. The University Choir, under the direction of Christopher Peterson, will sing “Adam Lay Ybounden” by Hubert Bird; “What Sweeter Music” by John Rutter; and “A Haitian Noel” by Emile Desamours.
The Women's Chorus, directed by Gloria Hansen, will perform “December,” a premiere of the work commissioned and written especially for the choir by Milwaukee composer Paula Foley Tillen. They also will sing another work by Tillen, “Before the Paling of the Stars.” Two works by Kirke Mechem, “Fum, Fum, Fum” and “God Bless the Master of this House,” will close the Women's Chorus portion of the program.
The UWM Men of Song, conducted by Christopher Peterson, will sing “Weep No More” by David N. Childs; “Hello Mary Lou,” arranged by David Wright; “Riu, Riu, Chiu,” edited by Noah Greenberg; “Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head,” arranged by Greg Lyne; and “We're the Men,” arranged by Joe Liles.
The Concert Chorale, conducted by Sharon Hansen, will perform Agneta Skold’s “Magnificat,” accompanied by harp and cello, and two Christmas carols by Ralph Vaughan Williams: “Children’s Christmas Song” and “Wassail Song.”
All of the choirs will join in singing “God Bless the Master of This House” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The concert will close with a brass fanfare and the singing of “O Come All Ye Faithful” by all the choirs, with the audience joining in on the last verse.
