MILWAUKEE —College Connection, an online bachelor's degree
completion program offered by UWM at 9 of the 13 two-year UW Colleges, has
expanded to include a tenth this semester.
UW–Fond du Lac is the newest campus to make UWM’s College Connection available to its students. A signing ceremony will be held today in the University Center Commons at UW–Fond du Lac.
Through the program, UW–Fond du Lac students are able to choose between two degrees – a bachelor of science degree with a major in Information Resources (BSIR) or a bachelor of arts degree with a major in Communication (COMM).
“This agreement is one more way UW-Milwaukee is maintaining its momentum through expanding access to our academic programs,” said Interim Chancellor Bob Greenstreet. “With our degrees now available at 10 UW Colleges, we continue to make available our university’s collective knowledge to an ever-broader audience.”
Around Wisconsin, 162 students are enrolled in College Connection at their hometown campuses, and 51 have completed a UWM undergraduate degree through the program.
Today’s ceremony also acknowledges collaborative degree programs that UW-Fond du Lac is signing with two other UW four-year campuses – UW–Stout and UW–Stevens Point – as well as reaffirming an ongoing program with UW–Oshkosh. UWM’s College Connection brings two new degree options to Fond du Lac’s degree completion offerings.
College Connection has grown steadily during the last four years. Earlier this year, the first graduate with a BS in Information Resources, the newest degree program to be offered, finished at UW-Sheboygan.
Last year, UWM extended the program to two other public colleges – Madison and Milwaukee Area Technical colleges, which both offer a liberal studies associate degree.
Attending the ceremony are UWM Interim Chancellor Robert Greenstreet, UW Colleges Chancellor William Messner, UW–Fond du Lac Dean Daniel Blankenship and Tom Walker, interim dean of UWM’s School of Information Studies. The chancellors from UW—Stout, Stevens Point and Oshkosh also are participating.
With an enrollment of nearly 700 students, UW–Fond du Lac is one of 13 freshman/sophomore colleges located at various locations around the state.
