Frank Named Acting Dean of UWM's School of Architecture and Urban Planning

MILWAUKEE — Nancy Frank, associate professor of urban planning and associate dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), has been appointed acting dean of the school. Frank takes over for SARUP Dean Robert Greenstreet, who has been named UWM's interim chancellor.

Frank, who has served as chair of the Department of Urban Planning since 1998 and associate dean since 2001, will begin her new responsibilities on Sept. 15.

"Nancy brings significant experience to the position," says Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs John Wanat. "She clearly has the support of the faculty and staff as the person best positioned to lead the school in this interim period."

Frank holds a Ph.D. from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the State University of New York at Albany. She has been a faculty member at UWM since 1983.

An expert in environmental planning, Frank's primary research interest involves policy issues related to the preservation of open space and the promotion of land use policies that reduce development impacts on the environment. She also has substantial policy experience on issues related to brownfield cleanup and redevelopment.

She is an appointed member of the Wisconsin Brownfields Study Group and serves as president of the Urban Open Space Foundation.

In addition, Frank is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association (WAPA), and editor of the WAPA newsletter.

She has been an active participant in campus governance, serving as president pro tem of the Faculty Senate and member of the University Committee from 1993-94, and a member of the Faculty Senate from 1991-97.
