Conference to Focus on Multistate Tax Trends

MILWAUKEE - The Deloitte & Touche Center for Multistate Taxation at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee holds its Sixth Annual Multistate Tax Institute on Thursday, June 20, at the Pfister Hotel, 424 E. Wisconsin Ave.

The daylong national conference brings together the collective wisdom and experience of many of the country's foremost multistate tax experts.

Paul Frankel, of Morrison & Foerster in New York City, and Richard Pomp, of the University of Connecticut Law School, discuss recent developments in both the income and sales and use tax areas.

Mark Nachbar (Deloitte & Touche LLP, Chicago), James Buresh (Arthur Andersen LLP, Los Angeles), Don Teichen (Deloitte & Touche LLP, Denver) and Marilyn Wethekam (Horwood Marcus & Bert Chartered, Chicago) discuss the key state tax issues in various regions of the country and their national impact.

In the afternoon, Diane Hardt, Wisconsin Department of Revenue, Madison; Charles Collins, North Carolina Department of Revenue, Charlotte; Richard Prem, amazon.com, Seattle; and Doug Lindholm, Council on State Taxation, Washington, D.C., give an update on the Streamlined Sales Tax Project.

In addition, John Healy, Deloitte & Touche Center for Multistate Taxation, Milwaukee; Dan Davis, Wisconsin Department of Revenue, Madison; and Mike Schaduto, Illinois Department of Revenue, Springfield, participate in an Illinois & Wisconsin Audit Roundtable.

Other participants, including Craig Fields, Morrison & Foerster, New York City; Maryann Gall, Jones Day, Columbus, Ohio; and Prentiss Willson, Ernst & Young LLP, San Francisco, give updates on third party transactions, Nexus, and apportionment.
