Vocal Department Presents Women's Music ConcertMILWAUKEE -An evening of vocal music by women composers will be presented by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Department of Music on Tuesday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. The free concert will be held in the Peck School of the Arts Recital Hall, 2400 E. Kenwood Blvd.
The concert features the women of the vocal area, including three recent graduates of UWM. Included in this special concert is music of historic composers whose more famous relatives have overshadowed these women's important achievements: Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Clara Schumann, Alma Mahler, and Pauline Viardot-Garcia. Also featured on the program are songs of Baroque composer Barbara Stozzi, and French impressionists Lili Boulanger and Cécile Chaminade. American composers include Amy Cheney Beach and comtemporary composer Libby Larsen.
