UWM New Generation Series Brings Concordanza Kwartet from the Netherlands

MILWAUKEE -The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee New Generation Concert Series hosts a young quartet from the Netherlands at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 14. The Concordanza Kwartet's members are Myrthe Helder, violin; Marije Helder, viola; Jonathan den Herder, cello; and Marlijn Helder, piano.

The quartet will play Quartet Opus 41, B flat Major by C. Saint-Saens; Quartet Opus 1, A Minor by J. Suk; and Quartet Opus 15, C minor by G. Faure. The concert takes place at the UWM Peck School of the Arts Recital Hall, 2400 E. Kenwood Blvd.

The Concordanza Kwartet was founded in 1995. Its members study at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Rotterdam with chamber musicians such as Vladimir Mendelssohn, Benzion Shamir, Barbara Grajewska, Ron Ephrat and Monique Bartels. Since the quartet was founded, it has won both national and international prizes, including first prize at the Princess Christina Competition and the Charles Hennen Competition. It has performed throughout the Netherlands and abroad in Norway and Germany. The April 14 concert will be its U.S. debut.

New Generation Series director is Wolfgang Laufer, cellist of the Fine Arts Quartet, artists-in-residence at the UWM Peck School of the Arts.

Tickets for the New Generation concert are available by phone, mail or in person through the UWM Peck School of the Arts Box Office, 229-4308. NOTE THAT THIS CONCERT TAKES PLACE AT 7:30 P.M., AN EXCEPTION FOR NEW GENERATION SERIES CONCERTS. Prices are $12/general public and $6/students. The box office is open for phone and walk-up business between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and one hour prior to performances. Note that parking is free on Sundays in the UWM Union Parking Garage, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.
