Hosts French College Students at This will be the fourth year UWM and the Alliance Française de Milwaukee have brought the students, who are studying at several prestigious French business schools, to Milwaukee. During their stay, they will be taking courses at UWM, staying in the homes of area families, and touring Milwaukee companies, including Harley-Davidson.
Bastille Days, an annual event of food, entertainment and cultural exchange, is put on by Milwaukee's East Town Merchants' Association each summer just after Independence Day. The festivities continue from 11 a.m. to midnight on Thursday, July 12; Friday, July 13; and Saturday, July 14. The hours are 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 15.
The students are from Negocia, a network of business schools affiliated with the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They will exhibit many French products which are marketed globally. The students will also prepare crêpes, barbe á papa (cotton candy), and croque-monsieur, a French sandwich.
French students get a chance to travel abroad, learn English, and participate in international marketing, says Paul Lapoule, lead instructor from Negocia.
Volunteers from the Alliance Française de Milwaukee will staff the French cultural tent, where visitors can take a free French lesson, buy souvenirs from Paris, or sample beignets (fried pastries).
