Cindy Kluge
Why We Give
Faculty and staff share a similar belief in the value of a good education and a strong university. The reasons we support UWM are unique. Here’s a sample:
Cindy Kluge (’82 MUP, ’98 MS Management), Budget and Policy Analyst, Office of Resource Analysis
Like many employees here at the university, Cindy is an alumna of UWM. In fact, she and her husband Michael together have earned four degrees from UWM. They met while they were students in the School of Architecture and Urban Planning. Like many alumni, Cindy recognizes that she received a terrific education at UWM, and that her experiences here provided for a fulfilling life that enables her to do interesting work.
“Giving back to UWM and the School of Architecture and Urban Planning just makes sense to me. My gift gives the school the flexibility to spend the money where the need is the greatest.”
Maintaining a connection to UWM is easy when you work here, and giving back is just as easy. Cindy makes her financial contribution through payroll deduction, using the convenience of a monthly payment from her paycheck – a process that makes giving manageable and automatic.

Jack Johnson and Kathryn Dindia
Professors Jack Johnson and Kathryn Dindia, Department of Communication
Professors Jack Johnson and Kathryn Dindia are passionate about education. In fact, their careers and their relationship are undeniably linked to it: married to each other, both are professors in the Department of Communication.
Jack and Kathryn recognize the remarkable transformation that takes place as students follow their curriculum and graduate from UWM. They also recognize that the cost of a college education keeps talented and deserving students away from their dreams of obtaining a college degree.
Thankfully, they are doing something about it. Says Jack: “Your actions should follow your values. Both Kathryn and I place a premium on higher education. We also recognize that UWM students, because of the decrease in state funding, must shoulder more of the cost of their education. We follow our values by helping UWM students handle tuition costs. All of us who value higher education, need to support scholarships that will enable our students to succeed at UWM.”
Jack and Kathryn, longtime members of the Chancellor’s Society, established and fund two scholarships in the Department of Communication: the Frank E. X. Dance Scholarship and the John R. Johnson Scholarship.
