This comprehensive collection of contemporary Native American photography explores Native American culture from within. The photographs are accompanied by commentary and poetry by noted Native American authors, including N. Scott Momaday (Kiowa), Luci Tapahonso (Navajo), Leslie Marmon Silko (Laguna Pueblo), Linda Hogan (Chickasaw), and James Welch (Blackfeet/Gros Ventre).

Shaking the Pumpkin: Traditional Poetry of the Indian North Americas

An important anthology of traditional, as opposed to contemporary, poetry. Rothenberg, a co-founder of Alcheringa, translated some of the poems; others were translated by Anselm Hollo, W. S. Merwin, Nathaniel Tarn and others.
