The 1826 French printing of The Last of the Mohicans in English did not parallel the work's popularity in the U.S. Baudry and Galignani wrote to Cooper in October of 1826, "Il nous faudrait du temps pour en trouver le placement en France. Nous pensions cependant arriver peu a peu a etre couvert de nos frais. . . ." Baudry worked to promote the works in Europe, however, and went on to reprint the work in English as a volume in Baudry's European Library.
