Winter Prairie Woman is the third in an annual commissioned series produced by the Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA) celebrating winter in the Upper Midwest. This printing is the regular edition of 290 copies numbered and signed by the author and bound by Dennis Ruud into Fabriano Artistico covers. Gaylord Schanilec, who was MCBA artist-in-residence at the time, designed and printed the book on Arches Text Wove with the assistance of Ingrid Erickson, Paulette Myers-Rich, Cynthia Peterson, George Roberts, Leslie Ross, Thomas White, and Martha Zemur. The Romulus type was composition-set at Harold Berliner Type Foundry.

Gaylord Schanilec, proprietor of Midnight Paper Sales Press, Stockholm, Wisconsin, was a featured presenter in the 1995 Book FOR[U]MS speaker series. Works from his press and from MCBA were featured in the 1995 UWM Library exhibit The Contemporary Fine Press.
