Call Number: (SPL-RARE) N 7433.4 .S66 C65x 1995

Limited to an edition of 75 copies, C:O:L:O:N was printed letterpress on Sakamoto and Fabriano Ingres paper, using Centaur monotype with some titling in Bodoni Condensed and subscripts for the composite images in Plantin. Initially inspired by the arrival of the 500th anniversary of Columbus's arrival, the book's completion was delayed by further occurrences of the very phenomenon discussed--long voyages of discovery to other continents, explorations of terra incognita. Ivan Soll, a professor of philosophy at UW-Madison, wrote the text and conceived the composite images; Marta Gomez, a book artist, letterpress printer, and conservation bookbinder trained in Colombia and UW-Madison, took care of the typography, printing, overall structure, and binding of the book. All other aspects of its design are the result of a close collaboration.

Ivan and Marta were featured presenters in the 1995 Book FOR[U]MS speaker series. Marta was a panelist in the 1996 3 Women Fine-Press Printers. C:O:L:O:N is the first book acquired from Tiramisu Press.
