HOW IT WORKS

  • Each laptop has a wireless card that sends and receives information via the network.
  • The laptop battery should last about 2 - 4 hours. Some activities will deplete the battery more quickly. When the battery is running low, a warning message will appear. Save Your Work Often!
  • A touch pad, located below the keyboard, is used instead of a mouse. Lightly move your finger to control the cursor. The keys below the touch pad function as the right and left mouse buttons.

GETTING STARTED

  • Place the laptop on a flat surface with the DELL label facing up.
  • To open the cover, press the latch, located on the front surface and lift up the cover.
  • The ON switch is located above the keyboard. Turn on the laptop by pressing the ON button. It will take the laptop a minute to boot up.
  • When you access the Internet, you will need to login to PROWLnet using your ePanther Username and password.

TIP: The laptop will go into a power saving mode and appear to be turned off when you close the lid.
To reactivate touch the mouse pad.

BATTERY AND AC POWER

You may choose to use the AC power adaptor or work on battery power alone.

Using the AC adaptor

  • You MUST connect the laptop to the surge suppressor and then into a power source.
  • You can connect the AC power adaptor with the laptop turned either on or off.
  • The power input is located at the rear of the laptop next to the two ports on the right side if you are facing the rear of the laptop.
  • The AC power adaptor will charge the battery and power the laptop.

Using the Battery

  • The battery should last approximately 2-4 hours. Actual performance time will depend on the applications used.
  • The amount of charge left on a battery can be checked by holding the cursor over the battery status indicator (looks like a battery) located on the bottom right hand of the tool bar. A box should pop up showing the % of battery life left. If the box doesn't pop up, double-click on the icon

SAVING YOUR WORK

Save your work often! The battery should last for from 2-4 hours, but some hard drive intensive activities will deplete the battery more quickly.
