The UWM Libraries are pleased to make 15 Digital Cameras available for use by current UWM students with active UWM IDs. Digital Cameras are checked out from the Multimedia Library located on the first floor, East Wing.
WHO CAN BORROW A DIGITAL CAMERA?
- Digital Cameras are loaned to current UWM students on a first-come, first-served basis.
- You must have your valid UWM student ID card when borrowing a Digital Camera. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- One Digital Camera per person.
HOW LONG DOES THE DIGITAL CAMERA CIRCULATE?
- Loan period is 2-days.
- Digital Cameras are not renewable.
WHEN CAN I CHECKOUT A DIGITAL CAMERA?
All Digital Cameras must be returned 30 minutes before the Multimedia Library closes.

WHAT ARE THE FINES AND FEES FOR LATE OR DAMAGED DIGITAL CAMERAS?
Please do not leave Digital Cameras unattended. You are solely responsible for the Digital Camera while it is checked out to you, and you will be accountable for any overdue fines, damage, loss, or theft.
- Overdue fines are: $10.00/hour
- You will be billed for reasonable repair or replacement costs up to $600.00 if the Digital Camera or components are damaged, lost, or stolen.
- You are also responsible for any violation of the UWM Student Code of Conduct and the Library's Use Policy and all other applicable UWM policies.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I BORROW A DIGITAL CAMERA?
- Digital Cameras are checked out from the Multimedia Library.
- You must present your valid UWM ID each time you check out a Digital Camera. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- You read and sign the Borrowers Agreement each time you check out a Digital Camera.
- At the end of the loan period, you must bring the Digital Camera back to the Multimedia Library in person.
- Do not leave the Digital Camera on the Multimedia Library desk unless a staff member is present.
- You must wait for the Library staff as they fulfill obligations to inventory components, test camera operation and provide a receipt.
DIGITAL CAMERA’S BORROWERS AGREEMENT
- I understand that while this Digital Camera is in my possession, I am responsible for it at all times. I WILL NOT LOAN THE DIGITAL CAMERA TO ANYONE ELSE. I will NOT leave the Digital Camera unattended. Digital Cameras MUST be returned ONLY to the Multimedia Library.
- I agree to pay the overdue fine of $10.00/hour per part, if I fail to return the Digital Camera or its accessories to the Multimedia Library’s desk on time. Fines accrue every hour regardless of the hours the Multimedia Library or the UWM Libraries are open.
- I will immediately report any loss or damage of the Digital Camera or its accessories to the Multimedia Library. I agree to pay all costs associated with damage to, loss of, or theft of the Digital Camera and its accessories (up to the $600.00 replacement and processing fee) while it is checked out to me.
- Library Digital Cameras are for research purposes, and I will abide by the Student Code of Conduct and all other applicable UWM policies. The Digital Cameras may not be used for illegal activities including, but not limited to: disruption of other users/services/equipment and harassment.
- I agree that the Library is not responsible for any photos or video left on the Digital Camera or for loss of, or damage to, files during the Digital Camera loan period. All files MUST BE SAVED TO A MiNI DVD-RW/R or MINI SD MEMORY CARD prior to the return of the camera.
- All Digital Cameras must be returned 30 minutes before the Multimedia Library closes.
- I will not leave the Digital Camera on the Multimedia Library desk unless a staff member is present. I will wait for Library staff as they fulfill obligations to inventory components, test Digital Camera operations, and provide me with a receipt.
- Borrowers should be proficient in the use of the hardware/software they plan to access. Library staff does not provide assistance in the use of either hardware or software.
- I acknowledge that the Digital Camera and its accessories were present and working upon checkout.

WHAT DO I GET WHEN I BORROW A DIGITAL CAMERA?

Tripods are available upon request.
SAVING VIDEO/PHOTOS?
- Video can be saved to a mini DVD-RW/R disc; still photos can be saved to a Mini SD memory card. All discs must be finalized before returning camera. The Digital Camera does not have internal memory.
- Mini DVD-RW/R disks and Mini SD memory cards can be purchased from the UWM Bookstore.

DIGITAL CAMERA USER INSTRUCTIONS
Getting Started
- Open the LCD viewing screen on the left side of the camera.
- Press the green button while sliding the On/Off switch down to ON.
- The word “Chicago” and the time will appear on the screen. Chicago refers to the correct time zone. This will automatically disappear.
- Using the Video/Camera switch located on the back of the camera above the joystick – to choose camcorder or camera function.
- Slide the on/off switch down to choose mode (green light – play back) (red light – record/take picture).
- Insert the Mini SD memory card in the back of the camera by lifting (CAREFULLY) the door next to the battery compartment (labeled AV mini SD card) and inserting the Mini SD memory card. Snap the door closed.
- Insert the mini DVD-RW/R by sliding the wrist handle down an out of the way. Slide the OPEN latch and wait for the door to open automatically. Lift the DVD door slightly and insert the mini DVD-RW/R on to the spindle and press down. Carefully close the DVD door.
INITIALIZING THE DISC/MEMORY CARD
New DVD-RW must be initialized before they are used.
WARNING – Initializing a DVD-RW disc will ERASE all prior recordings
- The screen will prompt you to choose the desired disc specification by moving up or down with the joystick.
- Press the joystick down to choose the option.
- A confirmation message will appear on the screen. Select Yes and press the joystick down to start the disc initialization.
New Mini SD Memory cards must be initialized before they are used.
WARNING – Initializing a Mini SD Memory card will erase ALL still images
Or if you get a “Card Error” message.
With the camera option chosen and the mode on Play:
- Press the FUNC(tion) button.
- Move the joystick down to Menu. Press the joystick down in to choose Menu.
- On the Still Image OPER. menu – move the joystick to the right and then down to “Card Initialize”. Press the joystick down to choose “Card Initialize.”
- When prompted, Press the joystick down to complete the initialization.
- Press the FUNC(tion) button to exit the menu.
ZOOM
- Use the toggle switch on top of the camera to Zoom In (Tight shot) or Zoom Out (Wide shot) or the zoom buttons on the bottom of the LCD screen.
BATTERY AND AC POWER
- The camera battery should last approximately 2 hours. Some activities will deplete the battery more quickly. When the battery is running low, a warning message will appear.
- You MUST have the power supply plugged in to finalize the disc.
- To charge the battery, turn the camera off and plug the power supply in to the back of the camera.
FINALIZE TO SAVE PICTURES/VIDEO
You must finalize the DVD-RW/R disc to be able to play the video outside of the camera.
- CAMERA MUST BE PLUGGED INTO THE POWER SUPPLY.
- Click on the (FUNC)tion button located on the side of the camera..
- Use the joystick to move down to the last Menu icon and press the joystick to choose its.
- Move the joystick down to Disc Functions
- Move the joystick to the right to go into the Disc Functions menu.
- Move the joystick down to “Finalize.”
WARNING - PLACE THE CAMERA ON A STABLE SURFACE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE FINALIZATION PROCESS TO PREVENT DATA LOSS/DAMAGE.
- Press the joystick down to choose “Finalize.”
REMOVING THE DVD-RW/R Disc
- Slide the wrist handle down and out of the way.
- Slide the OPEN latch and wait for the door to open automatically.
- Lift the DVD door slightly and carefully remove the mini DVD-RW/R.
- Close the DVD door
REMOVING THE MINI SD MEMORY CARD
- Lift (CAREFULLY) the door next to the battery compartment (labeled AV mini SD card)
- Press the Mini SD memory card in and then remove it.
- Snap the door closed
