ABSTRACT: As stated in the Constitution of the Society of American Archivists, the government of the Society, the management of its affairs, and the regulation of it procedures are vested in a council. Council consists of the president, vice-president, treasurer and nine councilors elected at-large by the Society. The files in this record group were created by persons serving SAA as elected council members. Records vary among each council member, but generally include correspondence, meeting materials including referenced documents and minutes, and records regarding council’s interaction with SAA committees, sections, and roundtables. The majority of records in this group (those processed after SAA's donation of its archives to UWM in April 2001) include only those compiled and created by council members during their official terms of council service.
ACCESS RESTRICTIONS: There are no access restrictions on the materials, and the collection is open to all members of the public in accordance with state law. However, the researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of libel, privacy, and copyright which may be involved in the use of this collection (Wisconsin Statutes 19.21-19.39). SAA retains its copyright in this collection.

ARRANGEMENT: The first record subgroup brings together the records of several council members under the heading of "Small Collections." At some point prior to SAA's donation of its archives to UWM in 2001, this arrangement scheme was abandoned and records of council members are now arranged directly under each member's name.
