Alexander Conze and Hermann Upmann both wrote accounts of their experiences at the Battle of Buena Vista in February 1847;  Upmann to his uncle and Conze to a Dr. Huebschaum.  Conze later died of his wounds. The letters were published together in the Wisconsin Banner newspaper under the title Letters from the Theatre of War.
