Library Research Series SPRING 2006
The UWM Libraries Research and Instructional Support Department offers a series of workshops that focus on how to do research in an academic library using both print and electronic resources. Each session focuses on a specific aspect of library research. “Hands-on” time is available for those who desire additional instruction.
Workshops are free and open to students, faculty, staff, and community users. Attend all sessions in sequence for comprehensive training, or only those sessions that are of interest. A Quick Introduction to the UWM Libraries- This session will include a short tour of the Libraries followed by a hands-on workshop covering simple search techniques in the online catalog, PantherCat. Meet in the main lobby of the west wing.

Using PantherCat- Looking for a book, journal, newspaper, movie or CD? This session will cover simple and advanced search techniques and how to use the online catalog, PantherCat, to find books and other materials at the UWM Libraries. This workshop will take place in room E159 in the east wing of the Library.

Article Databases: Using The UWM Libraries At Home And On Campus To Do Research- Learn how to find articles in scholarly journals (e.g., Journal of Nursing), popular magazines (e.g., Newsweek), and newspapers (e.g., New York Times). This session uses both full-text and abstract-only indexes/databases. This workshop will take place in room E159 in the east wing of the library.

Mastering The Internet- What is the Internet? Where do I begin? Which search engine should I use? How do I evaluate and cite a Web page? These questions and many others will be answered in this workshop. This session includes a hands on component and will take place in room E159 in the east wing of the library.
