Choosing Relevant Articles
Research for Arguments Tutorial

The next step after doing a search in a database is reviewing the citations in the results list. Citations may differ in their "look," but they all contain similar information.

Review the citations in the results list to see which articles to use in your research project.

Example of a "results list" from the database "Social Sciences Full Text."

Clicking on the article's title will bring up the full record for the article, including an abstract (summary) of the article, and a list of subject headings or descriptors.

Read the abstract carefully and look at the subject headings/descriptors.

Is it a good match?

Take a look at the date the source was published. Has anything important happened since then that would make the source inaccurate?
