Now that you know which sources to look for, you are ready to learn a few steps to locate them in the library. |
Just as you may subscribe to a favorite magazine, professionals like doctors and professors read their "favorite" journals. They read the journal that they expect will publish information that is of interest to them. When you have an assignment, you will have to choose a place to search for articles. An article database contains citations (title, author, source) of articles. Article databases index articles from publications, including newspapers, journals, and magazines, and sometimes contain articles online electronically (called "full-text" articles). To locate articles on your topic, use an article database subscribed to by the UWM Libraries. Access the article databases from the UWM Libraries homepage. |
There are three ways to access the databases from the library homepage.
|
|---|
Clicking on the subject guides link under the "Find Articles" heading (see above) from the library homepage will bring up a selection of databases specific to certain fields of study. Here's a portion of the "Subject Guides" page. Clicking on a heading like "Literature" will bring up a listing of databases specific to that subject.
For a full list of the Resources by Subject, use the "Resources by Subject/Major" link from the Library Homepage. |
Clicking on the Resources A-Z link will bring up an alphabetical listing of the databases that are available.
To access the databases in alphebetical order , use the "Resources A-Z" link from the Library Homepage. |

For off campus access, click on the Easy access from off-campus from the Resources A-Z page, or click on the Off-campus Access from the library homepage. |
