Mourned: Luciano Pavarotti


The world mourns the loss of Italian Tenor Luciano Pavarotti. His voice has touch millions around the world. He was a superstar on stage and in concert. Starring with everyone from Jose Carreras to the Spice Girls, his range of talent was extraordinary.

Mourned: Filmmaker Ingmar Bergman

The death of filmmaker Ingmar Bergman on Monday, July 30 was another great loss to the film community. One of the masters of modern cinema. this Swedish film director's talents are reflected in his 62 films. His artistry was in exploring the human condition - culling out the despair, the infallibility, the humor and the hope in bleak settings. Ingmar Bergman was also a phenomenal stage director and is widely quoted as saying "theatre is my wife, film is my mistress."
His many films include: Seventh Seal, Cries and Whispers, Wild Strawberries, Winter Light, Through a Glass Darkly and Fanny and Alexander.

Italian Filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni passed away on Monday, July30.

Streaming Video Available

The Multimedia Library has access to over 100 Annenberg/CPB video streaming titles. These titles, covering a multitude of topics, are available through the Annenberg website. All of the titles are catalogued and in the Libraries' online catalog. For hints on searching for streaming titles click on http://www.uwm.edu/Libraries/media/streaming.pdf for more information.

The Multimedia Library also has a list of links to other free streaming video resources that are available online from a variety of sources including Frontline, National Geographic and the American Memory Collection through the Library of Congress. Cool New Website - Blinkx.com


With over seven million hours of video on the Internet, it is a daunting task to search for something specific. The Blinkx.com website does a good job of helping with that. Blinkx allows you to search through videos on the web by utilizing a unique searching strategy that looks through the words spoke in the videos as well as subject matter and any titles assigned. In the future, maybe someone can figure out how to search through those videos that have no conversations or sound. For more information see their website at http://www.blinkx.com/
