The International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP) is an index of international music periodicals from over 20 countries. The coverage since 1996 is of over 400 titles, with selective, retrospective coverage of over 180 periodicals, some as far back as 1874. "IIMP covers nearly all aspects of the world of music, from the most scholarly studies to the latest crazes."
SEARCH
The SEARCH screen allows for searching within a variety of categories, including keyword, title, author, subject category, and subject term. IMPORTANT: the narrower subject terms and broader subject categories are ONLY available for the current materials (since 1996).

Search all one field, e.g., single author, or combine fields, e.g. author and keyword. In an author search, type last name first name in the appropriate text box. Boolean operators, and, or, and not, can be used within each text box. Phrases will be searched as exact phrases unless combined with the appropriate Boolean term.
Click on
to the right of each text box for a list of terms for each field.
Search terms may be truncated to broaden the search to cover various possibilities, e.g., masse* will retrieve records containing masse, massed, massenburg, massenet, masses, massey, etc.
The search can be limited to only the current or older files by selecting the appropriate choice under Search Options, or select a specific time frame by using the "From...To" boxes for "Publication Date." The limit of "Document Type" includes article review, book review, exhibit review, editorial, obituary, etc. Search results may also be limited to language, peer reviewed, country of publication, to a specific publication name (journal title), or to exclude reviews.
Words entered in the search box for "Publication" will retrieve all entries with that word or phrase in the title. To search for an exact title, type EXACT in front of the word or phrase. This will search for ONLY that phrase and will exclude titles with the phrase within the title, e.g., EXACT "american music" (with quotation marks) will allow a search in the journal American Music, but will not search American Music Teacher or Inter-American Music Review. The same search strategy will work in the "Subject Terms" category.
After the search terms have been entered, click on
.
A list of results, in brief (citation only) format, will appear.

To view the full record for a single entry, click on "Full citation" below the record. The full citation will include other descriptive information and any available abstract. To return to the list of entries from the full citation screen, use the BACK button on the browser bar.
