IEEE XploreŽ

IEEE XploreŽ provides access to over 900,000 full text documents including IEEE transactions, journals, magazines and conference proceedings published since 1988. IEEE Xplore also includes all current IEEE Standards and IEE publications.

How to Conduct a Basic Search

  1. Enter keywords or phrases in the text box.    
  2. Use Boolean search operators (AND, OR, NOT) to narrow or expand a search.
  3. Conduct the search by clicking the symbol.

How to Conduct an Advanced Search

  1. Click on .
  2. Enter keywords or phrases in the text boxes.
  3. Use Boolean search operators (AND, OR, NOT) if desired.
  4. Limit the search by using search operators and field codes if desired.
  5. Refine the search by making selections by year or publication type from the SEARCH OPTIONS box
  6. Conduct the search by clicking the symbol.

How to Search for an Author

  1. Click on .
  2. Enter a last name in the text box to quickly locate articles by the author of interest (enter the first and second initials to narrow the search; full first or middle names are rarely used in the database).
  3. Unsure of the exact spelling? Click on a letter of the alphabet to display a list of names beginning with that letter.
  4. Scroll down to the author of interest.
  5. Select that author's name to view IEEE/IEE published works.

Searching a Specific Publication Category:

Click on the category of choice and then conduct the search.

  1. How to Search for a Journal
    1. Enter a keyword in the text box to quickly locate journal titles containing that keyword, or scroll the list to select the title of interest.
    2. Click on the title to show the available years (enter a keyword in the search box to search abstract records of this title).
    3. Click on the year to show available issues (enter a keyword in the search box to search abstract records of this title).
    4. Click on the issue of interest.

  2. How to Search for a Conference Proceeding
    1. Enter a keyword in the text box to quickly locate conference titles containing that keyword, or scroll the list to select the title of interest.
    2. Click on the title to show the available dates (enter a keyword in the search box to search abstract records of this title).
    3. Click on the dates to show available proceedings (enter a keyword in the search box to search abstract records of this title).
    4. Click on the conference paper of interest.

  3. How to Search for a Standard
    1. Enter a keyword in the text box to quickly locate standard titles containing that keyword, or scroll the list to select the title of interest.
    2. Click on the standard of interest.

  4. How to Search for a Book
    1. Enter a keyword in the text box to quickly locate book titles containing that keyword, or scroll the list to select the title of interest.
    2. Click on the title of interest to obtain publication information. BOOKS ARE NOT FULL TEXT ONLINE.

How to View a Document

  1. To view an abstract, click on AbstractPlus below the entry.
  2. To view the full text, click on Full Text PDF below the entry.
  3. When searching for a category, entries will have a table of contents available. Check the table of contents listing to select which section is of interest, then view the abstract or full text.

How to Print

  1. To print the list of citations, click on Printer Friendly above the list of entries. Citations will be 25 to a page; if there are more than 25 results, each page must be printed separately.
  2. To print an abstract, click on Printer Friendly above the entry, and then follow the browser commands.
  3. To print full text PDF files, use the print commands on the Adobe bar above the text frame.

How to Download

  1. To download a citation from the abstract screen, click on the "Download" link under Download this Citation on the left. First select the format of choice - citation or citation and abstract.
  2. From the "Save as" pop-up, select destination drive and file name.
  3. Click on the "Save" button.

How to Email

  1. To email the list of citations, click on the email icon above the results list. Fill in the required information - a link to the IEEE Xplore page will be emailed; citations will be 25 to a page; if there are more than 25 results, each page must be emailed separately.
  2. To email the citation or citation and abstract shown on the screen, click on the email icon above the entry. Fill in the required information - a link to the IEEE Xplore page will be emailed.
  3. To email the full text, click on the email icon on the Adobe bar above the text of the document.

Set up an alert to receive email updates on the table of contents of specific journals. See the RIS guide Email Alert Services for basic details.

How to Exit

To exit IEEE Xplore, click Home on the browser bar.
