GENDERWATCH QUICK QUIDE
GenderWatch is a database of over 200 publications, covering from 1975-present, that focus on gender across a broad spectrum of subject areas. Some publications cover from 1970 and most publications are available full text. Publications include academic and scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, regional publications, books, booklets and pamphlets, conference proceedings, government, and special reports.
BASIC SEARCH:
- To search for articles, enter keywords in the search box, and click on "Search."
- Use Boolean operators (and, or, not) between words or phrases for a better search strategy.
- Limit the type of articles retrieved to full text, scholarly journals, or biographical articles by making this choice from the options given; or limit by specific dates.
- To further limit the search, choose an option from More Search Options.
- NOTE: Because the articles in GenderWatch are entirely concerned with women and gender topics, entering some search terms that might be used in a general database would not be useful. These would include words such as: gender, women, woman, girl, female, etc.
ADVANCED SEARCH:

- Advanced Search offers the Basic Search features and the basic More Search Options with multiple search boxes to combine fields and additional choices under the advanced More Search Options.
- More Search Options allows for narrowing special search fields, these include:
- Author – All attributed writers, including syndicated columnists and other contributors, in the database.
- Subject – Use a controlled thesaurus term. Either browse terms or enter keywords in the space provided. Click on "Topics" at the top for a list of assigned headings.
- Document Type – Interviews, book reviews, editorials, obituaries, feature articles, etc.
