Corporate ResourceNet User Guide

Corporate ResourceNet, covers over 4,000 titles in U.S. and international business, including scholarly journals, trade journals, and pamphlets. Dates vary for coverage; some coverage goes back to 1984. Full text of nearly 1,300 titles is included in the database. Current Datamonitor company directory records are also available.

Basic Search

Limit or narrow the search:
    - Article format: Retrieve only full text articles, articles of a specified length, peer reviewed
    articles, or articles with images.

    - Publication information: Retrieve articles from a specific journal, from a specific date range,
    or a selected publication type. To view a list of the journals covered in Corporate
    ResourceNet, click on the Publications button at the top of the screen.

Expand the Search
    - Expand the search: Include related words such as plurals and synonyms or search
    within the full text of journal articles included in the database.

Advanced Search

  • Click on the [Advanced Search] button.
  • Enter a word or phrase in the Find box.
  • Next, use the drop-down menu to the right of the search box to select a field to search. Searches can be done across Select a Field (all fields) or in a variety of specific fields, including Author, article Title, Journal Name, and Subject. Specialty limits can be used here or from drop-down menus below the main search boxes. Each search box can be limited to a different field, allowing for combinations of search strategies.
  • To connect multiple search terms, phrases, or concepts, use the multiple search boxes; use the Boolean operators and, or, not by clicking on the drop-down menu located to the left .
  • In addition to the search options described above, the search can also be limited to results from a certain publication or document type (article or book review/editorial/case study/product review, etc.), articles related to a specific company or to mulitple companies (good for comparison studies), DUNS number, NAICS/Industry code, product code, ticker symbol, person, product, etc.

Results List

  • The Results list consists of those resources that include the search terms within the selected search fields. Datamonitor company profiles are not retrieved in a basic or advanced search.
  • Click on an underlined title to display the full description of the article, which includes the citation and the abstract.
  • If available, click on the full text link below the citation to view the full text of the article.
  • To mark entries for printing, E-mailing, or saving, click on "Add to Folder" from each individual entry or, from the Results list, click on to the right of each entry.

Locating Resources at UWM Libraries

  1. To determine if the UWM Libraries own a specific journal or book cited in the results list or has the full text of the journal available in another online resource, click at the bottom of the citation.
  2. If the journal is available full text in an online resource, select the database of choice from the options given and follow the instructions to locate the article.
  3. If the journal is not available full text in an online resource, follow the link to the UWM Libraries to check for print holdings. Locate the call number and holdings in the PantherCat record.
  4. If a title does not appear in the libraries' catalog nor is available full text online, request the journals through Interlibrary Loan and the books through UW System borrowing or Interlibrary Loan.

Special Features

  • Publications: an alphabetical list of the journal titles indexed in Corporate ResourceNet.
  • Thesaurus: an alphabetical list of the assigned subject headings.
  • Company Profiles: an alphabetical listing of the companies for which there is full text of the current Datamonitor company profile. ACCESS COMPANY PROFILES THROUGH THIS LINK ONLY.
  • Indexes: browse an alphabetical list of searchable fields such as NAICS code, geographic terms, company entity, etc.

Company Profies

The current company profiles from Datamonitor are available full text. The profile will generally contain some or all of the information as listed:

Printing, Saving, or E-mailing Search Results

  • To print from an individual record:
    1. Click on the Print icon.
    2. The default option is citation details and abstract; de-select that to print only the citation (the article title and author, journal date and volume and pagination) or to customize fields wanted.
    3. If the item is html full text, have the full text on the screen, click on the Print icon, then select the option(s) available for any full text in addition to the citation information.
    4. Next, click on Print in the Print Manager box, then follow the commands to print the information as displayed on the screen.
    5. For PDF files, including the Datamonitor company profiles, use the print command on the Adobe bar above the text frame.

  • To E-mail from an individual record:
    1. Click on the E-mail icon.
    2. Choose to E-mail as one of the following:
      • The default option is citation details and abstract; de-select that to E-mail only the citation (the article title and author, journal date and volume and pagination).
      • Choosing citation with any available full text includes all citation information and the full text of the article (if available) - choice will vary if article is in HTML or PDF format.
      • For PDF files, including the Datamonitor company profiles, use the e-mail command on the Adobe bar above the text frame.
    3. Enter a full E-mail address and a subject (optional).
    4. Click on Send in the E-Mail Manager box.

  • To save from an individual record:
    1. Click on the Save icon.
    2. The default option is citation details and abstract; de-select that to save only the citation (the article title and author, journal date and volume and pagination).
    3. Choosing citation with any available full text includes all citation information and the full text of the article (if available) - choice will vary if article is in HTML or PDF format.
    4. PDF files must be saved from the document following the instructions on the Adobe bar.
    5. Next, click on Save button in the Save Manager box, select File, then Save As from the web browser menu. In the Save as window, select the A drive, and type in a file name.

  • To print, E-mail, or save multiple items from the Results list or Folder:
    1. To print the entire list of results, click on the print, E-mail or save icon of choice and follow the instructions above.
    2. To print only the selected list of entries (those marked to put into a folder), click on "View Folder" at the top of the screen. Unwanted items can be deleted from the folder listing. Follow the directions for printing, E-mailing, or saving an individual record.
To Exit Corporate ResourceNet, click on the Home button on the browser bar.
