SEARCHING ANTHROPOLOGICAL LITERATURE: The option to limit to subscriptions received by UWM Libraries should NOT be selected as this will EXCLUDE any sources available full text from another database.
Using the Basic Search, type the important terms in the appropriate assigned text box and click on SEARCH.
The index, Anthropological Literature, covers over 2,400 major journals and books on anthropology, archaeology, art history, religious studies, economics, and related topics. Coverage reaches back to the late 19th Century. The index is compiled and made available from the Tozzer Library at Harvard University. A related index is Abstracts in Anthropology, with coverage from 1970, located in the reference collection, (REF) GN 1 .A2x. Other online indexes covering a broader spectrum of related areas are listed at the end of the guide.
Using the Advanced Search, type keywords in the text boxes, highlight the field within which the words should be located from the drop-down menu, select the appropriate Boolean operator, and click on SEARCH. Fields include keyword (anywhere) descriptor, author, title phrase, abstract, conference name, etc. Words can be truncated to retrieve all items beginning with a term, e.g., cultur? will retrieve culture, cultures, and cultural. A search can be limited by date and/or language.

A subject word search will result in a list of subject headings, with a count of items that match each term. Select the appropriate heading(s) and select "List," "Brief," or "Full." Results will be displayed in the selected format. "Full" will have all information, including subject headings.
For an author search, not all citations use an author's first name; search by initials as well as first name. Search author by lastname, firstname/initial.
To edit a search or begin a new one, select "Basic Search" or "Advanced Search" from the
link above the results list.
