SAC serves UWM students who have physical, learning, sensory or psychological disabilities that substantially affect a major life activity. SAC helps to clarify students' responsibilities and encourages students to communicate their disability-related needs to faculty and staff. SAC facilitates requests for staff by verifying disabilities and helping to identify reasonable accommodations in the classroom. Brailling and recording services are provided by SAC.

Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic is a national nonprofit organization providing educational materials in recorded and computerized formats at every academic level. These materials are available to anyone unable to read standard print because of a visual, perceptual or other physical disability. Services are provided to those who become a member of the organization. RFB&D records educational and reference materials not available on tape or disk from other sources. These materials include collections in science, environmental issues, law, social science, medicine and literature. Materials are recorded on cassette tapes or are provided in electronic text (E-text). Please contact SAC for assistance in obtaining materials through the RFB&D.

The Wisconsin Regional Library, housed in Milwaukee Public Library, serves Wisconsin residents who are unable to take advantage of standard print materials due to visual or physical impairments. The WRLBPH provides books and magazines in three formats: braille, recorded disc or cassette. The collection of about 200,000 items including best sellers, romances, mysteries, classics, sport and travel for adults, young adults and children. Also available for loan are record players and cassette players. The WRLBPH provides reference service on the topics of blindness and disabilities. Services are provided at no charge to the user. Students should contact the WRLBPH to obtain services.Library of Congress: National Library Service for the Blind and Physically HandicappedWhile the Milwaukee Public Library catalog, CountyCat, will list the large-print, tape and braille holdings for the county libraries, it will not include the holdings of the WRLBPH. Check the link given for the catalog to access to the titles in that collection.
This web site has a searchable catalog. The materials listed are available through the Wisconsin Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped and should be obtained or requested at the Wisconsin Regional Library (housed at Milwaukee Public Library). Results can be limited to type of material, such as braille, large print music, or tactile maps.

The following volunteer services provide for the brailling or recording of printed materials at the request of the user. There is no charge for the service. Please contact the organizations directly.
