Creating Links Through the UWM Proxy Server

When the EZProxy prefix is added to an E-Reserve Reading list, or a link to an article in a database, off-campus students will be prompted to login using their ePanther ID and password. This login and password will give them access to subscription databases from off-campus. You may add the Proxy server to a link by using the Linkmaker. See the instructions below for E-Reserve links and Database PURLs. Why add the Proxy? By creating a link to an article in a database, rather than downloading and posting the article, you are less likely to violate copyright law. By adding the Proxy server to the PURL, you improve student access to the content and reduce the confusion of navigating to another login point, etc. **Two database publishers, Ebsco and Proquest, already include the Proxy server prefix in their PURLs.

Can I add a link to my E-Reserve list in D2L?

You may add a link to your E-Reserve reading list as long as you include the proxy server in the link. To view the reading list students must login with their ePanther ID and password. Distance Education students and students who are new to the campus may need assistance logging in. Each semester, faculty will receive alternate login instructions from E-Reserve to help students in those situations. For more information, call or email Kathy Bowes or Becky Clinnin at 414-229-3698.
