JOIN THE CIRCLE OF KNOWLEDGE

Join the circle of knowledge @ your library: celebrate National
Library Week April 13-19

It’s National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide - and the perfect time to discover how you can join the circle of knowledge @ your library.

“Everyday, libraries in big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and in businesses help transform their communities. At our library, people of all backgrounds come together to do research, to use our wonderful resources, or to attend lectures and programs. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

Visit the UW-Milwaukee Libraries this week, conveniently located all in one building at the center of campus. No rain, no cold, no hassle!

DID YOU KNOW .......

That a 1984 study found that physical, mental, emotional, and social development is faster when students learn a musical instrument?

That in a Scottish study, one group of elementary students received musical training, while another group received an equal amount of discussion skills training. After six months, the students in the music group achieved a significant increase in reading test scores, while the scores of the discussion skills group did not change.

That a 2000 study indicates that a student who participates in at least one college elective music course is 4.5 times more likely to stay in college than the general student population?

That playing a musical instrument has been shown to increase students math abilities and test scores?

Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them - a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of all of us depends on providing children with a complete education that includes music (Gerald Ford)

MARCH is MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH
As more and more schools eliminate music programs and cut teachers everyone loses. Support your music educators and your school music programs.
