Two Types of Article Databases

2. Subject Databases

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject database. Subject databases specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:

ABI/Inform
Indexes articles in business-related subjects such as management, finance, and advertising.
Historical Abstracts
Indexes articles in world history.
Applied Science & Technology Abstracts
Applied Science & Technology Abstracts indexes articles in engineering, electronics, geology, etc.
