Subject Listing: World War II |

During World War II Anthony King presented the War Labor Board with briefs
detailing labor disputes between local companies and their unionized employees.
In 1945 members of United Automobile Workers, Local 347, employed at the T. L.
Smith Company, requested a pay increase of nine cents per hour, a pay increase
the company was unwilling to adopt. After lengthy discussions the issue was
brought before the National War Labor Board, which voted in favor of the T. L.
Smith Company. The above document compares the union's proposed rate with the
wages of similar positions in Milwaukee.
