Subject Listing: World War I |
During World War I, Sargeant 1st Class, Carl Pieper was stationed at the United
States Army Base Hospital No. 22 in Beau Desert, Gironde, France. In January of
1919, Sgt. Pieper was granted a three day leave, but before he could depart he
had to have the above "leave slip" signed and stamped by designated officers.
While absent from the base hospital, Pieper was able to use this form to
validate his leave, as well as obtain free travel on "leave
trains," which were developed by the United States Army to provide
transportation for soldiers on leave.
