Contains the records of a non-profit organization created for urban redevelopment of the Park West Freeway corridor in Milwaukee. Includes committee meeting minutes, correspondence, maps, news clippings, photographs, project proposals, reports, and research studies. Most of the records are those of PWRTF Executive Director David C. Hoeh and the Assistant Director, Brigid Sullivan-Flynn. The records, especially the monthly reports filed to the Milwaukee Department of City Development and the Director's correspondence, document the PWRTF's effort to redevelop the Park West Area, to gain funding for the Task Force, and its dealings with government offices and officials.

Papers of a Milwaukee native and US Army Sergeant 1st Class who served at Base Hospital No. 22 (named Beau Desert) near Bordeaux, France during World War I. Most of the collection consists of photographs. The images include unit photographs, and scenes of camp life, German prisoners, hospital wards, nurses, patients, and training in Milwaukee. The unit was staffed by people organized by the Milwaukee County chapter of the American Red Cross. A unit history provides details on the origin, operations, and demobilization of the Hospital. Photographs taken by George M. Richard, who at the time was the editor of the Wisconsin Alumnus, a magazine of the Wisconsin Alumni Association, based in Madison. The photos were included in the October 1958 issue of the Alumnus. Included are interior and exterior shots of the newly formed University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus, including Baker Fieldhouse, the Student Union, downtown classroom buildings (all of which have been razed or are no longer used), the Campus Elementary School (currently the Kunkle Center), Kenwood Hall, the library (currently Mellencamp Hall), Mitchell Hall, and classes in session. Papers of a former Polish Army officer and immigrant to Milwaukee who was engaged in teaching English to new arrivals and organizing an association of Polish veterans, the Association of Veterans of the Second World War in the Polish Armed Forces. Included are several albums compiled by Rogozinski containing papers, copies of documents, photographs, and text, often in Polish, concerning himself, other Polish immigrants, and veterans' activities. Fragmentary papers of a Milwaukee, Wisconsin businessman, civic leader, and tuberculosis health care activist. Includes biographical information and microfilmed clippings; correspondence; portraits and other photographs; articles and versions of his autobiography, concerning his determined recovery from tuberculosis; and subject files concerning his involvement in state and national tuberculosis associations, and the interest of his widow in the Will Ross Medal and other memorials to her husband. Portions of this collection are available only on microfilm.

The correspondence includes examples of the monthly mimeographed letters which he sent to friends and business associates between 1926 and 1951. The collection includes a few examples of early letters (ca. 1917-1923) that he sent to his mail order customers concerning his hospital supply firm, Will Ross, Inc., which was established while Ross was still a patient in a tuberculosis sanitarium. Records (mainly from 1971-1972) of a nature education center owned by the National Audubon Society in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Includes records of Citizens for the Nine Mile Farm Nature Center, which worked to establish the center in 1972; extensive correspondence (some available on microfilm) between members of the Citizens group, the National Audubon Society, and the Uihlein family, which owned the property, and their lawyers; legal documents; notes; minutes; newspaper clippings and scrapbooks (only available on microfilm); planning documents; and photographs. More recent material consists of brochures, schedules, and advertising; an incomplete run of the center's newsletter; and correspondence of Winifred Woodmansee and her files on the Education Committee of the Friends of the Schlitz Audubon Center. The collection consists of photocopied newsclippings dating from the 1940s, which illustrate several of the important events of Schultz's career as a Milwaukee alderman. Schultz was elected to the Milwaukee Common Council in 1932 and served for sixteen years. Also contains political handbills and several miscellaneous photographs. A collection of photographs (both negatives and prints) taken by Claude Schumacher on Milwaukee's east side after the cleanup from the record-setting late January 1947 snowstorm had begun. Many of the images were made around the 2600 block of Downer Avenue, in the vicinity of where Schumacher operated Claude's Bike Shop. Other images were shot outside Schumacher's residence, located in the 2000 block of Menlo Boulevard. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Records (mainly 1974-1980) of a volunteer organization which promoted the health and well-being of older adults and encouraged them to be politically and socially active. The collection includes committee meeting minutes, correspondence, news clippings, photographs, grant proposals, reports, film, and videotape. Most of the records are those of its presidents, William Kesselman and Anne Sery. Especially well-documented are the Identification Cards program, its tax reform meetings, and work with the Milwaukee County Commission on Aging. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Miscellaneous papers of a pioneer Wisconsin newspaperman, politician, and businessman. Most of the collection consists of letters to Sholes' wife Sarah, usually of a personal nature. Some of the letters dating 1853-1855 discuss meetings with Horace Greeley and Phineas T. Barnum; impressions of William Lloyd Garrison as a speaker; descriptions of New York museums, a spiritualist seance, and a reception given by Senator Charles Durkee. A letter dating 9 February 1854 describes a performance of Uncle Tom's Cabin at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. There are some references to Sholes' work in New York overseeing the printing and sale of railroad bonds; to his purchase of telegraph lines in Wisconsin; his activities as speaker of the Wisconsin state assembly; and to his brother Christopher. Papers of a Benton Harbor, Michigan musician and educator. Collection contains general files of Smythe's (nee Hobbs) 1889-1890 tour of Germany, including typescripts of Smythe's letters to her family, and newspaper clippings of her letters that were published in an unidentified newspaper. The general files on the European trip also contain postcards, several photographs, and copies of concert programs she attended. The collection also includes incoming letters (1887-1939) from a wide variety of musicians and writers, including Zona Gale, and two letters from Booker T. Washington concerning a speaking engagement in Benton Harbor. The miscellaneous items include an undated photograph of Smythe, and her notes on the life of Johann Sebastian Bach. The records provide information on West Bend's development of cookware, small appliances, outboard motors, military supplies, and other products; sex roles in advertising; marketing techniques; wartime conversion of industry; and an employee home ownership program. The project focuses on the life stories of Wisconsin homemakers and on the influence the Wisconsin Extension Homemakers Council had on their lives. The collection consists of tape-recorded interviews, transcripts, a published guide to the project, a copy of a cookbook derived from the project, photographs, a slide/tape show with accompanying script, publicity materials, a discussion guide, and a script for a play based on the oral histories. Records of the nonprofit organization established in 1910 to support the Washington Park Zoo and, after its establishment in 1953, its successor, the Milwaukee County Zoo. The records document the zoological society, not the zoo itself,  which is an agency of Milwaukee County government. The collection includes complete minutes of the board of directors as well as less complete files of constitutions and by-laws, committee minutes, general correspondence of society officers and directors, financial records, subject files, reports, publications, and newsclippings.

Coverage of the administrative correspondence is spotty and best on the tenure of George Spaulding as zoo director. Additional correspondence and blueprints document building projects and exhibits constructed during the 1970s and fundraising efforts for the new Milwaukee County Zoo during the 1950s. In general, the records focus on policy, membership, fundraising, public outreach, and development of the animal collection. 

Photographs (PH Milwaukee Mss 204) housed in this collection include images of zoo activities, views of both the Milwaukee County Zoo and the Washington Park Zoo, personnel, and animals and their zoo habitats. Several photographs of the television personality Marlin Perkins are also included in the collection. Finding aid available in the Archives.
