Collection contains the records of the county council, primarily arranged in a chronological correspondence file, regardless of the type of
document. Thus, meeting minutes, trial committee records, resolutions, and correspondence with the membership and other organizations are
found together. Among the materials found in the correspondence files are numerous newsletters and reports of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) and the Wisconsin State Industrial Union Council. The MCIUC was also actively involved in the war effort during World
War II, and the files contain materials from the Milwaukee County Council of Defense, and resolutions condemning Nazism and demanding the start of a second front.

The correspondence includes documentation on efforts to promote more housing in Milwaukee County, and a confidential memorandum on differences between the MCIU and Wisconsin State Industrial Union Council (18 November 1947), which discussed charges of Communist influence and improper representation of Local 1533 at the Fairbanks, Morse and Company. There are some materials on strikes by the United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers Local 1111 strike against the Allen-Bradley Company (1938-1939) and the United Auto Workers Local 248 strike against the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company (1946). The collection contains other membership and financial records, including delegate and attendance records, union ledger cards, and various financial records including audit records, bank books, receipts, tax forms, and strike fund disbursements. Records of the Milwaukee Solvay Quarter Century Club (1943-1983), an association of veteran employees of Milwaukee Solvay Coke Company, a manufacturer of coke and coke by-products. The records document the club's activities and development, and include constitutions and by-laws, correspondence between club directors, membership lists, membership death notices, minute books, photographs of club activities and company facilities, secretary's reports, Christmas cards and Christmas party programs, company histories, and a small quantity of the papers of club historian Herbert Hinz. The club was devoted mainly to social activities and to the recognition of longtime company employees. The collection contains publications issued by Milwaukee Solvay and its parent companies, including the Schlesinger Interests' Conveyor (1914-1921), the Koppers Company's Koppers News (1928-1930), the Milwaukee Solvay News (1942-1962), the Pickands, Mather and Company Producer (1966-1972), and a catalog of the Newport Company (1921). Papers, mainly 1983-1986, of a former Democratic legislator (Assembly 1967-1982; Senate, 1982-1986) consisting of alphabetical subject files and files on problems of individual constituents. The subject files contain correspondence and memoranda from constituents, colleagues, advocacy groups, and staff members; speeches and statements; policy papers and reports; minutes; and clippings. They relate to legislative issues such as education, nursing homes, and taxes and to committees on which Otte served including the Senate Transportation Committee, the Migrant Labor Council, and the Legislative Council's Special Committee on Primary Prevention. Papers of a labor lawyer, Progressive, Socialist, Wisconsin state senator, and Milwaukee County judge. Padway became chief counsel for the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor in 1915 and for the American Federation of Labor in 1938. The papers contain subject files pertaining primarily to Padway's political activities, personal interests, and travel; and scrapbooks of clippings on his legal interests and more noteworthy cases. Patrick Cudahy Strike and Plant Closing of 1987-1989 Oral History Project.

Collection consists of oral history interviews with administrators and workers at the Patrick Cudahy meatpacking plant in Cudahy, Wisconsin who were on strike from 1987-1989. Students in Dr. Michael Gordon's history class at the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee conducted the interviews in 1994. For each interviewee there is a cassette recording and abstract of the interview. The topics discussed include family background; job history at Patrick Cudahy; working conditions; attitudes towards the company, the strike, and scab labor; and how the strike lasted for two years. Of particular interest for details about the financial and working conditions of the plant, and strike strategies are the interviews with Cudahy President Roger Kapella, Director of Human Resources Daniel Habighorst, and United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local P-40 President, Mark Rosenbaum. The PPPA papers span the years 1909-1971 and include the constitution and by-laws, minutes (1909-1971), and financial journal (1942-1963). Because earlier editions were unavailable, only a 1968 copy of the constitution and by-laws is included in the collection. This edition documents the purpose of the organization, how it is governed, duties of officers and members, and other characteristics of the association. The minutes are complete from the organization's formation and include a record of general and special meetings. Subjects covered include general business, election of officers, financial information, and decisions on payment of fees and claims submitted on behalf of members. For early years, the minutes also include summaries of alleged offenses for which members were taken to court. The journal records the association's receipts and disbursements and show the source or recipient, amount, and purpose of the transaction. It also includes annual statements of the association's assets for the years 1942-1956. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Papers of a Milwaukee Jewish lawyer who was chief counsel for the American Federation of Labor for twenty-five years. Most of the collection consists of correspondence with labor and political leaders, and contains no legal briefs and very little information on cases. The correspondence reveals Rubin's own attitude toward labor, his belief in democratic processes, and his political philosophy. Also contains copies of many of Rubin's articles and speeches, and newsclippings of his own writings. Includes ten letterbooks containing copies of letters sent out by Rubin's law firm, usually sent by his associates. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Records, mainly 1934-1956, of a Milwaukee local that represented employees of the Slocum Hat Company, many of whom were women. The local was formed in 1934 as Local 51 and rechartered in 1936 as Local 50. Included are minutes; agreements; correspondence with employers, Alex Rose and other officers of the international union, local members, and officials of the National Labor Relations Board and the Wisconsin Employment Relations Board; membership applications and cards; and documents concerning a 1942 arbitration and strikes during the 1930s and the 1950s. In addition, the collection includes a set of index cards that refer to an attempt to organize the employees of the Reliable Knitting Company in 1968. A few photographs housed with the collection document strikes and general union activities. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Records of a union representing workers at the Nordberg Company, Milwaukee, Wis., consisting of minutes of monthly union meetings from March 1937 to May 2004. The minutes record the local union financial statements, member and officer lists, and discussions of union issues and social events. The union was originally organized as Lodge 1137 of the Steelworkers Organizing Committee on behalf of the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel and Tin Workers of North America in May of 1937. On July 25, 1940 the local was officially chartered with the United Steelworkers of America. In 1970, the Nordberg Company was sold to Rex Chainbelt and became Rexnord in 1973. The name was changed again in 1987 to Nordco Inc., and is now known as Metso (Nordberg).Finding aid available in the Archives.

Records of a union that represented employees of the George J. Meyer Manufacturing Company (Milwaukee, Wis.) consisting of minutes of the executive board, night shift, and day shift meetings (1937-1941 and 1953-1985). The minutes include discussion of union labor issues and social events, financial statements including dues reports, and member and officer lists. The last volume (1982-1998) is a record of the Retirees Club of local 1258 which includes discussions concerning health insurance and planned social events of the club. Records of a USWA local representing workers at the Evinrude Motors Company (Milwaukee, Wis.) consisting of chapter correspondence as well as correspondence between the local and the national organization; records concerning Evinrude Motors’ defense contracts with the National War Labor Board; election ballots and results; financial records; labor agreements with Evinrude Motors; grievances filed with the company; and membership rolls. The chapter began as the Steel Workers Organizing Committee as part of the Amalgamated Association of Iron & Steel Workers of North America and was formally recognized by Evinrude Motors on March 25, 1937. Criminal complaints registers, 1928-1963.
Milwaukee Series 13
Contains the criminal complaints registers of the West Allis Police Department. Each volume contains a table of contents on the inside front cover with complaints listed in two categories: a property index and an offense index. The property index includes entries for personal property thefts, i.e., automobile, clothing, jewelry, etc. The entries list the complainant, location where theft occurred, the item which was taken, and the name or description of offender when known. The offense index includes assaults, burglaries, and complaints of indecent or immoral behavior in the early volumes. In later volumes, the registers were expanded to include gambling and liquor offenses, labor disputes, public gatherings and riots, counterfeiting, fires (generally false alarms), and business transaction complaints. Labor disputes, public gatherings, and riots were usually related and involved strikes, picketing, and violence against employees and employers. The record also came to include entries for neglected children, narcotics use, and requests received from other law enforcement agencies. The individual entries for the previous offenses include the person or agency filing the complaint, where the offense occurred, and a description of the offense and offender if available. Records of the District, the Wisconsin Nurses Club and Directory, and some records of the Milwaukee District of the Wisconsin League of Nursing Education. Records include correspondence with hospitals, the state board of health and the Internal Revenue Service concerning programs, civic affairs, legislation, and general problems facing the nursing profession such as unemployment or shortages of trained personnel. Also includes materials on attempts at professional self-regulation, establishment of standard fees, improved working conditions, and reduction in hours of duty. Especially well documented are efforts to recruit and train nurses in World War II. Also contains minutes of the regular monthly meetings and the board of directors, and a few files from committees.
