Records, mainly 1931-1969, of several women's organizations associated with an Orthodox nursing home founded in 1906 as the
Milwaukee Home for Aged Jews. The Women's Aid Society (1924-1962), the Ladies' Auxiliary (1930-1962), and the Women's Service League (1956-1968), the Women's Auxiliary and Aid (1962-1970), and the Women's Service Auxiliary (1970- ) were established to serve residents and help finance, operate, and maintain the home. Documenting their organization and activities are bulletins, by-laws, clippings,
financial records, historical accounts, minutes, and photographs. Also included are a few files containing by-laws, legal documents, minutes, financial statements, and publicity materials relating to the construction and general administration of the home.

Papers of a Milwaukee Jewish women's club formed in 1902 (and known as the Wednesday Club until 1909) to study parliamentary law and discuss such subjects as government, welfare, and education; including minutes, yearbooks, and constitutions.

Consists of seven oral history interviews conducted in 1990 with Jewish merchants and their descendants who were active on Milwaukee's Polish south. Interviews contain information on inter-ethnic relations, anti-Semitism, the experience of Jewish immigrants, and conducting business with immigrant clientele. New Home Club (Milwaukee, Wis.).

The collection consists largely of administrative records of the Club, dating mostly from the 1950s to 1970s. The records document the Club's efforts to remain financially solvent, develop membership, and arrange social activities. The collection contains assorted financial records; records concerning the Club's anniversaries (1947-1987), including a few photographs taken at the events, and a videotape of the 13 September 1987 celebration; membership lists (1937-1987); records of the annual meetings (1951-1952, 1967-1985); and the meetings of the board of directors

(1963-1985). The correspondence files of the Club's presidents (1950-1987) usually deal with financial and membership matters. The collection also includes flyers advertising the Club's activities (1949-1987); a 1946 history of the group; newsclippings (1952-1979); a small amount of correspondence regarding Seder Night (1953-1979); and a file concerning the group's dissolution (1985-1987). The only record from the World War II era is a membership list; nothing exists documenting the efforts to assist Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany. Only passing mention can be found concerning the relief fund for Jews in Austria and Germany after the war.

Records, primarily in Yiddish, of a Jewish cooperative insurance association (the Austrian Sick Benefits Association) formed in Milwaukee in 1906 and dissolved in 1975. Papers of a Jewish labor lawyer, Progressive, Socialist, Wisconsin state senator, and Milwaukee County judge. Padway became chief counsel for the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor in 1915 and for the American Federation of Labor in 1938. The papers contain subject files pertaining primarily to Padway's political activities, personal interests, and travel; and scrapbooks of clippings on his legal interests and more noteworthy cases. Papers of a Milwaukee Jewish lawyer who was chief counsel for the American Federation of Labor for twenty-five years. Most of the collection consists of correspondence with labor and political leaders, and contains no legal briefs and very little information on cases. The correspondence reveals Rubin's own attitude toward labor, his belief in democratic processes, and his political philosophy. Also contains copies of many of Rubin's articles and speeches, and newsclippings of his own writings. Includes ten letter books containing copies of letters sent out by Rubin's law firm, usually sent by his associates. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Papers, some in Hebrew and Yiddish, including correspondence, circulars, news clippings, financial and membership records concerning Zionist activities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A large amount of the correspondence is between the national headquarters of the Keren Hayesod (Palestine Foundation Fund), Paole-Zion-Zeire Zion of America, and Jehudah Halevy Gate, and local Milwaukee chapters of the respective organizations.

Papers of the secretary to the Milwaukee division of the American Jewish Congress. Most of the collection pertains to the work of the Congress, including files on the boycott of German products in 1933 and the Olympic Games of 1936, and promotion of other anti-Nazi measures; on cooperation with other Jewish organizations; on World War II Russian relief programs; and on internal conflicts within the Milwaukee group. Other files include records of the Milwaukee Jewish Council (1939-1947); Poale Zion in Milwaukee (1939-1947); Bank Hapoalim (1937-1940); as well as a scrapbook, and miscellaneous papers (1914-1947) relating to Milwaukee Jewish groups interested in labor, youth, veterans, and interracial relations. Copy of an autobiography of a Milwaukee Jewish merchant who emigrated from Bavaria in 1848 and established a general merchandise business in Milwaukee in 1850; in German with an English translation. Deals primarily with Stern's childhood in Bavaria, his journey to the United States and Wisconsin, establishing his business and family matters.

Most of the collection is background materials, especially published literature, concerning Israel and Palestine, compiled by Joseph McCarty, a former officer of the SPJME, a UWM student organization. The only material dealing exclusively with the organization is a scrapbook containing a constitution, correspondence, flyers, letters, and memorabilia. The collection also contains four reel-to-reel tape recordings of a December 6, 1970 edition of a Milwaukee radio talk show, Milwaukee Talkie, hosted by Bob Schuster with guest Uri Davis, an Israeli pacifist and war resister. Miscellaneous records, largely created or compiled by Alan Corr, a department faculty member and chair. The correspondence files document the origin and early development of the department, and include letters and memoranda of the Ad Hoc Committee on Hebrew Studies, chaired by Robert F. Roeming, with the Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning and the College of Letters & Science. The correspondence files also document the early development of the curriculum, funding, and staffing of the department. The records of the Arts and Humanities Divisional Executive Committee, dating from 1975-1977, document efforts to establish more effective procedures for tenure-track staff positions. Photocopied scrapbooks of a leader of the Perhift Players (Peretz Hirshbein Folk Theatre), a Yiddish theater company formed in Milwaukee in 1920 as the Young Literary and Dramatic Society, which in 1931 became the Yiddish Drama League; containing programs, clippings, letters, photographs, and minutes documenting Weinshel's performances and activities with the Perhift Players, the Milwaukee Players, and the Center Players of the Jewish Community Center of Milwaukee. Description: Records, primarily 1954 to 1977, of an organization formed in 1954 to promote the study of Jewish history and culture. Included are correspondence, minutes, membership lists, publications, publicity materials, Scholarship Committee material, clippings, and tape-recorded interviews with five past presidents. The records document the role of the WSJL in establishing departments of Hebrew Studies at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and Milwaukee in 1955 and 1961 respectively, and in founding the Wisconsin Jewish Archives at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin.
