ABSTRACT: Collection of a former English teacher at the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee which largely consists of her works of religious poetry. Other materials include correspondence and reviews of her poetry books, as well as newspaper and magazine clippings and a biographical file on the teacher and author.


ACCESS RESTRICTIONS: There are no access restrictions on the materials, and the collection is open to all members of the public in accordance with state law. However, the researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of libel, privacy, and copyright which may be involved in the use of this collection (Wisconsin Statutes 19.21-19.39).


ARRANGEMENT: The files are organized alphabetically.


BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: A native of Racine, Wisconsin, Ruth Mary Fox received a B.A. from Rosary College and an M. A. from the University of Wisconsin. She also did graduate work at the University of Chicago, Leland Stanford University, and the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, and received honorary doctorates from the College of St. Thomas Aquinas and Mount Mary College. Fox taught English and comparative literature at the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee and its predecessor institutions, the Milwaukee State Teachers College and the Wisconsin State College, from 1922-1960.

Fox's poetry has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. Her major works include Dante Lights the Way, published in 1958, and Some Did Return, published in 1976.
