BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Tillema studied in Berlin before World War I, and was a music teacher at
the Milwaukee Normal School from 1915-1918. He was president and general manager
of the Tillema Candy Company from 1918-1930. He returned as a music teacher at
the Normal School in 1926 (which became UWM in 1956), and retired from UWM in
1962. Tillema died in 1987.

ACQUISITION:
The Tillema family donated the collection to the Golda Meir Library's Music
Department on 7 October 1987. The Music Department transferred the collection to
the Archives in 1995 (accession number 95-023).
PROCESSING: Mark A. Vargas processed the collection at the Archives in October 1995.
