ABSTRACT: Miscellaneous pamphlets and newsletters produced by the San Francisco-based
committee which led the effort to assist Harry Bridges. Between 1940-1945, the U.S.
government attempted to deport Bridges, a leader of the International Longshoremen's
Association, and the Committee organized labor and political support in his defense. The
collection also contains some newsclippings concerning the case. The Committee was originally
known as the Harry Bridges Defense Committee.
ACCESS RESTRICTIONS: There are no access restrictions on the materials, and the
collection is open to all members of the public in accordance with state law. However, the
researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of libel, privacy, and
copyright which may be involved in the use of this collection (Wisconsin Statutes 19.21-19.39).

ACQUISITION: The Golda Meir Library purchased the collection in November 1976. The
collection was accessioned into the Archives in February 1995 (accession number 94-021).
