ABSTRACT: Records documenting the activities of the Interfraternity Council, an organization which governed social fraternities at UWM and its predecessor institutions, and the fraternities it governed. Included in the collection are constitutions and by-laws; correspondence; minutes; fraternity guides; Greek Night and Greek Week brochures; and rushing, pledging, and hazing policies.

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS: There are no access restrictions on the materials, and the collection is open to all members of the public in accordance with state law. However, the researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of libel, privacy, and copyright which may be involved in the use of this collection (Wisconsin Statutes 19.21-19.39).


ARRANGEMENT: The files are organized alphabetically, then chronologically. Files can contain a variety of materials, including correspondence, memos, and reports.

ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY: The Interfraternity Council appears to have been established at the Milwaukee State Teachers College in the mid-1940s. The Interfraternity Council governed all social fraternity activities on campus.

ACQUISITION: An unknown donor transferred the collection to the Archives prior to 1989.

PROCESSING: Christel T. Maass processed the collection at the Archives in June 1995. Jeremy Brett added a few files from the office "dribble file" in January 2007.
