ABSTRACT: Records containing correspondence, minutes, and miscellany. The correspondence file (1956-1976) contains correspondence between the department chairman and the dean of the College of Letters & Science, largely documenting course and curriculum developments. A large share of the correspondence and related proposals found in the file concern the development of an undergraduate major in Greek. Other correspondence documents the budget and staffing. Also included in the collection are miscellaneous department and executive committee minutes.

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS: There are no access restrictions on the materials, and the collection is open to all members of the public in accordance with state law. However, the researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of libel, privacy, and copyright which may be involved in the use of this collection (Wisconsin Statutes 19.21-19.39).

ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: The Dept. of Classics was established in 1956 at the time of the merger between the Wisconsin State College, Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin's Milwaukee Center when the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee was created.
