Papers, ca. 1874-1954.

Milwaukee Manuscript Collection H

.4 cubic ft. (1 archives box)

ABSTRACT: Harry W. Jordens, a Milwaukee businessman, is of German extraction. He has been employed as a salesman by a number of large Wisconsin companies, including Evinrude and Pabst, has worked independently as an insurance agent, and has also been interested in real estate. He has been active in at least two German American organizations: the Rigoletto-Mandolin Club, and the Federation of German American Societies of Wisconsin.

The Jordens Papers relate primarily to the Milwaukee German American community. They include a folder of letters and other writings in German script that relate to Jordens' great-grandfather, Emil Viergutz, a German immigrant who operated a hardware store in Milwaukee. The Papers also include scattered correspondence, clippings, financial statements, minutes, and other miscellany relating to the Rigoletto Mandolin Club (an orchestral group composed almost entirely of mandolins), 1925-1945, and to the Federation of German-American Societies of Wisconsin, 1941-1954.
