ABSTRACT: The records of the Congregation Beth Israel consist mainly of bound volumes, some of them in Hebrew or Yiddish rather than English. They sketchily document the activities of the Congregation from 1920 to 1956, although some material is dated as early as 1900. The collection includes annual reports, a subject file, an extensive series of various financial records, and a memorial to the dead. The most important of the financial records are a general ledger, 1944-1947; cashbooks, 1922-1947: membership and contribution books, 1920-1944: and records of seating for both the High Holy Days and English services, 1937-1953. A 1966 dedication book for David Siegel Hall contains a history of the congregation from 1871 to 1966.
